Thomer M. Gil
My name is Thomer [
]. I design, write, and then debug
software for a living. I went on leave from my Ph.D. (in
"All-But-Dissertation" status) at CSAIL, the Computer Science Laboratory at
MIT to pursue other opportunities. My
research [see papers] was on something
vaguely related to sensor networks and databases. Before that, I worked in
the PDOS group, also at CSAIL.
I obtained my first Master's degree from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (see my
unconventional guide to Amsterdam).
While I grew up in The Netherlands and Dutch is my first language, neither of my parents is Dutch. (And, in case you're confused, read about the difference between Dutch and Danish.) Like them, I now live in a different country than the one I grew up in.
When I don't work, I ride my bike, cook, bake various types of bread, think, obsess about photography, listen to music composed by people that are long dead, play various instruments (e.g., my piano), sing in a choir, and occasionally watch a movie worth watching. Sometimes I write pointless software and web pages in my spare time. I try to not forget how I solve problems. If you think you have to, you can look at some photos of me.
